Everything You Need to Know Before You Begin

We know choosing the right arts program for your child is an important decision, and we’re here to make the process as easy and welcoming as possible. Below you’ll find answers to some of our most common questions about classes, registration, performances, schedules, and what to expect at Cartesion Dance Academy.

What should my dancer wear?

Cartesion Dance Academy has specific attire and shoe requirements for all students. A dress code adds uniformity, promotes teamwork and discipline in the classroom. Please refer to our dress code info sheet on the correct attire and shoes. If your child does not have them for their first class it is not a problem at all. https://canva.link/64lwd5zsnk7bme9

How does tuition work?

Our dance season runs for 9 months, September through May. Tuition is calculated for the entire dance season, not based on the number of classes held in an individual month.

When determining yearly tuition, we account for scheduled studio closures and holidays and calculate the total number of weeks each class will meet throughout the season. That annual tuition amount is then divided into 9 equal monthly installments for your convenience.

Because tuition is divided evenly across the season, your monthly installment remains the same whether a particular month has three, four, or five class meetings.

Families may choose from the following payment options:

Monthly: 9 equal installments, September–May

Bi-Annual: 2 payments during the season

Annual: 1 payment for the full season

This payment structure makes tuition consistent and predictable throughout the dance year.

Do I still pay full tuition during holiday breaks or studio closures?

Yes. Your monthly tuition installment will remain the same even during months that include scheduled holiday breaks or studio closures.

This is because tuition is not charged based on the number of classes in a particular month. Before the season begins, we calculate the total number of class weeks from September through May, taking all scheduled holidays and studio closures into account. Your total seasonal tuition is then divided into 9 equal monthly installments.

Think of it as a yearly tuition amount that we divide into manageable, consistent payments for your convenience. Some months may have more class meetings than others, but your installment stays the same throughout the season.

All planned studio closures are already factored into your tuition, you are not being charged for classes that are scheduled to be closed. This is also true for snow days. We give 3 free bonus days for snow closures in the year that we do not charge tuition for.

What if my dancer misses class?

There are no refunds for missed classes. Make-up classes are available and encouraged but not required. You may schedule your makeup class with someone at the front desk, by calling or on our website through your parent portal. The last day to make up a class is usually around the middle of April, however, be sure to check the full studio calendar that is handed out when you registered for an exact date. Students can make up the class in any class that is for their age/ level or below. For example, you child misses a Fundamentals II class. They can make it up in 1. any other Fundamentals II class 2. Fundamentals I or 3. Any other class for their age/level such as Mini Jazz, Tiny Tumblers, Little Dance Cirque Aerial Silks, Broadway Stars or Jr. Hip Hop.

What happens if we need to drop a class?

We understand that schedules change and sometimes a class is no longer the right fit. At CDA, families are never locked into paying for the remainder of the dance season if their child needs to stop taking a class.

To withdraw from a class, simply complete a Withdrawal Form at the front desk at least 7 days prior to the 1st of the upcoming month.

As long as we receive the completed form by that deadline, you will not be responsible for the following month’s tuition or any future tuition installments for that class.

For example, if you would like to withdraw beginning November 1, your Withdrawal Form must be submitted at least 7 days before November 1.

We want dance to be a positive experience for your family, which is why we offer this flexibility rather than requiring families to financially commit to the entire season.

How will I know if CDA is closed due to snow or inclement weather?

When the winter weather arrives, so does the ice and snow. Cartesion Dance Academy follows the Pleasant Valley School District for weather related closings only. If Pleasant Valley (PV) School District is closed or has a virtual day due to weather we will be closed also. (this is for weather ONLY not holidays, etc. See our calendar for holiday closings). Parents should always use their own discretion, if the studio is open. You can call the studio on (570) 992-5299 (message will be on answering machine), band app, and/or our Facebook/Instagram page to see if classes are cancelled . If PV does not close, but the weather does arrive later in the day, information will be available one-two hours before the start of class, unless there is a weather emergency. If PV cancels after school activities, we are closed and you don’t have to look any further. This is where the band app comes in handy when we can send out a last minute closure and you will get notified on your phone.

The snow days are no eligible for make up as we give 3 built in snow days free for the season. You do not pay for these days. If we would go past 3 snow days for that particular day, we will schedule a make up class.

Do you offer a recital?

Yes! Our annual recital is one of the most exciting parts of the CDA dance season! It gives our dancers the opportunity to take the stage, celebrate how much they’ve grown, and share what they’ve learned with their family and friends.

Participation in our recital is completely optional. Dancers can enjoy taking classes at CDA without participating in the year-end performance.

Recital participation begins with our Tots in Tutus class for 2-year-olds, giving even some of our youngest dancers the opportunity to experience the excitement of performing on stage!

Our annual recital takes place in May. Families receive plenty of information throughout the season about costumes, recital fees, dress rehearsals, tickets, schedules, and everything you need to know to feel prepared for the big day.

Recital is a wonderful celebration of our dancers, their growth, and all they have accomplished throughout the season and for many CDA families, it becomes a favorite tradition! 🩵

Does my dancer need to have the correct attire or shoes for their first class?

Not for their first class! We want your dancer to feel comfortable trying a class before you invest in dancewear and shoes.

For your dancer’s first class or trial class, they are welcome to wear comfortable clothing they can easily move in. If they don’t have the correct dance shoes yet, that’s okay too!

Once your dancer decides to continue, we do ask that they follow the CDA dress code for their specific class, including the appropriate dance shoes. Proper dance attire allows our teachers to see alignment and technique while also helping dancers move safely and confidently in class.

We’ll be happy to help you determine exactly what your dancer needs. There’s no need to have everything figured out before their first class!

Great dance teacher/owner, she really takes time with the kids to make sure they are doing their moves right. My daughter loves coming to dance and has come out of her shell of shyness.
